Blazers’ Festus Ezeli gets a second chance for his knee

Festus Ezeli, a forward for the Portland Trail Blazers, was diagnosed with a cartilage defect in his left knee. After consulting a number of surgeons, it was determined this could potentially be career-ending. Ezeli opted to move forward with an allograft transplantation procedure, which was performed by Dr. Robert LaPrade of The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado.

After the initial diagnosis, Ezeli was placed on the donor list at the end of last year and later received a call in March that a match was found allowing the surgery to take place. To express his gratitude for this graft and the opportunity to return to the BA, he is currently writing a letter to the donor family in hopes he could eventually meet them in person.
