Osteochondral Allograft Chondrocyte Viability Is Affected During Harvest by Irrigation Temperature and Reamer Speed

  • To understand the effect of drilling, reaming, and irrigation temperature on chondrocyte viability during OCA allograft plug harvest.
  • Reaming and drilling with cold saline (5°C) maintained chondrocyte viability and protected against heat induced death associated with OCA harvest, irrespective of drill speed.

JRF Takeaways: Irrigation with 5°C saline can protect chondrocyte viability during plug harvest. With viability being one of the most important factors in OCA success, JRF is committed to providing the freshest OCAs available within an expiration window of 28 days.
