Osteochondral Allografts

Patella Bone

Cartilage defects of the patella can be particularly challenging.  The patella bone allograft is used for resurfacing these cartilage defects with mature hyaline cartilage and bone. The patella can be matched with a Femoral Trochlea for bi-polar joint repairs.

Allograft Highlights

  • Humeral Head allografts can be radiographically size-matched to the individual patient
  • Talus allografts are readily available and can be substituted for Humeral Head allografts due to similar radius of curvature

Features and Benefits

  • Processed in an aseptic environment by highly trained processing technicians
  • After processing, the grafts are refrigerated in JRF Ortho’s unique nutrient media with antibiotic that has been shown to maintain cartilage viability during refrigerated storage
  • Comprehensive inspection criteria to detect allograft imperfections, tissue and cartilage quality
  • Detailed dissection sheets for each individual graft provide the surgeon a photo of the specific graft with all recorded measurements and notations of any slight imperfections that may be present
  • Packaging is clearly labeled with expiration date and storage instructions
  • OCA Handling & Preparation Instructions

Surgical Techniques

A detailed protocol guiding the creation of a recipient socket and matching press-fit allograft core using graduated sizers, dilators, reamers, and workstation instrumentation, ensuring precise orientation, depth fit, and flush articular surface seating.

A stepwise surgical workflow for harvesting, contour matching, reaming, sizing, and press-fitting osteochondral allograft cores into femoral condyle defects, emphasizing precise depth measurement and careful insertion for optimal articular conformity.

A specialized surgical approach using custom elliptical harvesting instruments to restore extensive oblong patellar cartilage defects with a single press-fit osteochondral allograft sized to the natural curvature of the patella for optimal surface restoration.
