Traveling Fellowships

Applications are now open for the quarterly JRF Ortho Traveling Fellowships designed to provide you with OR live surgery exposure to osteochondral allografts, meniscus, and ligament repair — all in a dynamic and stimulating environment.These unique fellowship opportunities are designed to promote the exchange of knowledge and surgical expertise in the field of orthopedic surgery.

Overview

The JRF Ortho Fellowships support current sports medicine fellows, early practice ortho surgeons, or surgeons seeking to incorporate cartilage restoration procedures into their clinical practice. early-career orthopedic surgeons by offering unique training experiences led by distinguished faculty in different regions across the U.S.

Each quarter, three outstanding candidates will be selected for this unique experience — and one of those quarters will be dedicated entirely to an all-female cohort, with both faculty and fellows coming together to advance women in orthopedic surgery.

Fellows benefit from mentorship by renowned experts, travel costs are covered, and hands-on observation at leading medical centers. These programs foster cross-cultural exchange, encourage both domestic and global collaboration, and contribute to the advancement of clinical skills and orthopedic knowledge worldwide.

Purpose and Objective

The JRF Ortho Fellowship is intended to foster the exchange of knowledge and skills in the field of sports orthopedic surgery, specifically in allografts. Fellows will have the opportunity to observe sports orthopedic surgeries performed by highly respected surgeons, discuss the surgical procedures, and discuss and share research experience.

Application Requirements

The applicant should be able to speak English, have completed an orthopedic surgery residency and have a practice focusing on sports surgery. Applicants are required to submit:

(1) Letter of motivation with career goals (max 2 pages);

(2) Brief CV (max 2 pages), including date of birth, current and past affiliation, degrees, awards, and research interests;

(3) List of publications on cartilage treatment and joint preservation over the last five years (from 2020) with titles and journal references (optional).

Winter Fellowship dates: February 8 – 12, 2026
Southern California

Spring Fellowship dates: April 2026
Midwest/Oregon

Women’s Fellowship dates: Late Summer 2026
East Coast and Colorado

Fall Fellowship dates: Sept/Oct 2026
Colorado and Southern California

Note: JRF Ortho will cover all costs for transportation and accommodation, as well as several dinners with the local hosts.
