In honor of Silvie Yocum, one of JRF Ortho’s first specialty graft donors, the organization has renamed their Specialty Graft List to Silvie’s List. This tribute recognizes the profound impact of Silvie’s donation back in 2006, when her whole humerus was requested for a 5-year-old girl battling osteosarcoma. Faced with the difficult choices of amputation or an allograft, the recipient found hope when JRF Ortho, in collaboration with Gift of Hope and AlloSource, stepped in to fulfill the request—an opportunity made possible by one mother’s courageous decision to say “yes” to donation. Silvie’s legacy continues to inspire, having benefited over 240 recipients of complex osteochondral allografts, and serves as a powerful reminder of the life-changing potential of tissue donation.
